Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes facial muscles, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the area it is injected. For decades, Botox injection has consistently been the most common cosmetic option, with more than 4.4 million Botox and Botox-like procedures performed in 2020 alone, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
At Liquid Facelift Hawaii in Honolulu, we are proud to offer Botox treatments to our Honolulu patients looking to refresh their look without surgery or downtime. When you choose a qualified and experienced Botox provider like Dr. S. Larry Schlesinger, the results are fast, safe, and require no recovery time, allowing you to return to work immediately after treatment.
How does Botox work?
Botox (botulinum toxin type A) is a purified form of the protein found in Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is injected into the facial muscles using an ultra-fine needle (31-32 gauge). Botox arrives at our Honolulu office in powder form, where we dilute it with saline to reduce its toxicity and make it injectable.

What can Botox treat?
Botox is intended to treat dynamic wrinkles and lines, i.e. those caused by facial movements such as frowning and smiling. These include:
- Crow’s feet (corners of the eyes)
- Glabellar lines (aka “the 11s”)
- Frown lines (aka “marionette lines”)
- Forehead lines
- Chin dimpling (aka “orange peel chin”)
Botox can also be used to target non-aesthetic issues, including:
- Preventing migraines
- Reducing sweating
- Preventing eye twitches
- Overactive bladder
It’s important to note that wrinkles in your face that are caused by a loss of skin elasticity and environmental factors, such as smoking and sun damage, will not respond to Botox.
Is Botox safe?
Botox has an impressive safety record, with only 36 adverse reactions reported from 1989-2003. Most Botox reactions are mild and include minor bruising, swelling, and/or redness around the injection site. These side effects typically resolve on their own.

How many Botox injections will I need?
The number of Botox injections you will need (i.e. the number of units in each treatment area) will depend on your aesthetic goals and skin type. Our aesthetics team will discuss the details of your Botox treatment in depth with you during a personal consultation.
How long will it take to see my Botox results?
While many patients begin to see the effects of Botox within just a few days, it can take 7-10 days to see your full results. Botox results typically last up to 4 months, with some patients enjoying results for up to 6 months.
