Choosing the Facelift Surgery Option

If you have already explored your liquid facelift options and would prefer to undergo facelift surgery, I can offer you that option as well. For all of my Hawaii facelift patients, I recommend a singular surgical goal: to attain a fresher, more rejuvenated appearance that appears naturally youthful. As a skilled, board certified plastic surgeon, I can help patients see the tangible results of meeting this goal. Please read on to learn more about facelift surgery.

Facelift Surgery Details

Facelift surgery (rhytidectomy: the surgical removal of wrinkles) is a procedure that involves the removal of excess facial skin and fat, followed by the gentle redraping of the skin. Following a brief recovery, facelift patients enjoy a fresher, more youthful facial appearance. Not only does a facelift reverse the effects of gravity; it does so in a semi-permanent fashion, by providing results that last for years to come.

The Facelift Experience at our Honolulu Practice

All of my Hawaii facelift patients are offered a minimal incision facelift. I prefer this technique because it does not involve placing incisions in the scalp. For women, that is an especially favorable method because it eliminates the need to raise women’s sideburns, which preserves the feminine hairline.

For both male and female patients, I typically perform a facelift that stays on top of the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS).
This is because:

  1. It minimizes the risk of nerve damage.
  2. it creates results that appear far more natural.

We have all seen photos wherein a celebrity looks strangely “like a different person” after undergoing facelift surgery. In those cases, the person most likely obtained a “deep” facelift, performed below the SMAS. That is exactly why I don’t offer that method.

Here is what I do instead: I perform a facelift on two layers, first by lifting the SMAS and internal tissue and sewing it to itself before gently redraping the skin and external tissue. The surgical drains come out after 24 hours, and there are no dressings involved. Often, I make house calls to follow up with my Honolulu facelift patients; when I do, many of them tell me how pleased they are with the pleasant, bruise-free results so soon after surgery. These results are all thanks to DMSO, an anti-inflammatory that I apply to every facelift patient at the end of the surgery. My patients don’t look “different” – they look younger and more refreshed.
