Choosing the Eyelid Lift Surgery Option
Several liquid facelift injectables are ideal for rejuvenating the eye area, but some patients are better suited for a surgical solution. Here is how to determine if you are a good candidate for eyelid lift surgery: Are you dismayed by bags under the eyes? Do you have so much extra skin around the eyes that your eyelids are drooping – and does that drooping impair your vision? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you may be a good candidate for eyelid lift surgery in Hawaii. An eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) can reverse the effects of time and gravity on the upper and lower eyelids, such as sagging or drooping.
Eyelid Lift Surgery Details
An eyelid lift is designed to create a fresher, more youthful appearance of the eyes. If extra skin and pockets of fat impair a patient’s vision, eyelid lift surgery can correct this unsafe condition and lead to better vision. Although this surgery is concentrated on the upper portion of the face, many of my Honolulu eyelid lift patients find that eyelid lift surgery helps the entire face appear more youthful and attractive; it goes above and beyond rejuvenating the eyes
The Eyelid Lift Experience at our Honolulu Practice
For every eyelid lift surgery patient, the procedure begins with general anesthesia. The surgery then proceeds, first with the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids (whichever lids require that). One point of interest is that upper eyelid surgery has stayed virtually the same over time, while lower eyelid surgery has evolved significantly. In fact, surgeons have discovered that while the deposits that cause lower lid sagging don’t appear until around age 30, they actually begin developing during puberty. Here is how it works:
The septum orbitale membrane (which holds back those deposits) starts to break down with the onset of puberty and continues breaking down as we age further. Then, lower lid bags develop as fat starts emerging in those areas. To eliminate these bags, I remove the offending fat and create a muscle sling under the tissue at the corner of the eye. That sling is attached to the bone, which tightens the muscle so that it will push the fat back where it belongs. This is a skillful technique that is available to my Honolulu eyelid lift patients. For some patients, this method can reverse sagging of the cheekbone. When that happens, eyelid lift surgery is similar to a mid-facelift.
Recovery for Hawaii Eyelid Lift Patients
Typically, eyelid lift surgery scars become invisible over time. Because eyelid skin is the thinnest skin on the body, incisions in that skin result in fine scars that shrink easily. For more patients, normal activity can be resumed within four days of surgery. There will be some swelling, but it will dispel in a short time – unlike the vibrant, beautiful results of the surgery, which are pleasantly long-lasting.
